The Targus Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video is the first USB based docking station with true video output capabilities. This "One Touch" interface allows users to quickly and easily connect to an external monitor, keyboard, Ethernet, mouse, printer, speakers or other devices in a matter of seconds. This product is also the first docking station to allow users to connect through a single USB connection.
When the notebook is placed on top of the docking station, its unique shape provides a more comfortable typing position and allows for better cooling of the notebook. Another factor unique to Targus' Docking Station is the "Always On" capability. A button on the back of the device allows two of the four USB ports to always have power, whether the notebook is powered down or in sleep mode. This allows USB devices plugged into the docking station to continually have power or to recharge.

Some other reviewers here seem to be forgetting that this is providing a USB video driver so it obviously has limits, i.e. 1280x1024 at 16bit -
it's certainly not an "Overpriced paperweight" - the reviewer obviously didn't do his research or have the knowledge of what this device was doing.
It is all connecting via a single USB port remember...
People seem to be missing the point...

Bought it mainly for its video capability; before installing it, I was troubled by the fact that the manual was saying max res was 1024x768 and 16bits. After a lengthy installation process, plugged in my monitor and color quality was horrible on my otherwise crisp LCS screen.
Overpriced paperweight

This is the only and only USD replicator I found that did video. The video performance in my in my office it is fine. I am about to buy another for my home.
That being said, the software is a minus. Since installing it, windows hangs on shut down and sometimes on startup. The video default is for VERY LOW performance video, so one has to right click on the desktop, select properties, go to settings and adjust the properties of the other monitor. The fixes needed are pretty minor, more about decent coding.
Not so bad, nots so good

I bought this product because I wanted to simplify plugging/unplugging my Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop from various peripherals such as printer, scanner, keyboard and mouse. The Targus port replicator offers one feature which differentiates it from all the competition. It offers Video support through the same single USB2 connection which powers all the other peripherals. This allows me to use my desktop flatscreen with my laptop without the tedious job of connecting the monitor cable each time. This enhancement would certainly justify the price tag for this product. However I have been very dissapointed in the display on the desktop monitor. The refresh rate is too slow for video and the display is not very sharp and the cursor freezes on the external monitor while remaining active on the laptops own screen if there are too many other usb devices active. I have tried disconnecting all the other usb devices and there is only a marginal improvement. I have confirmed that my laptop is USB2 equipped and should therefore be fully compatible with this device. This product is certainly inovative but perhaps USB2 is not a fast enough method for good quality video transmission. Nice idea but not quite there.
Poor video performance on external monitor
