I have rheumatoid arthritis and this Targus Rolling Backpack was purchased for me through Disabled Student Allowance. I can tell you that it has made a huge difference in the impact on my joints and has reduced the pain and fatigue I get at the end of the day after hauling around my books, laptop etc. all day at University. I didnt get this backpack until the second term, so the whole first term I was carrying everything around in a regular backback, on my back, most of the day. The additional weight that was put on my joints made my symptoms worse.
The cool thing about this bag is that its so versatile. You can wheel it, wear it on your back, or carry it at your side like a briefcase. Its light, easily maneuverable, compact and efficient. I take public transport in London and its easy to pull around then pick up to go up stairs or into trains. The pully handle has adjustable lengths so you keep it close to your legs if you are walking in heavy crowds. Also, because its so light and agile, pulling the weight of it when its full doesnt put heavy strain on my elbow and shoulder joints.
The inside has lots of nooks and crannies and compartments for everything. There is even an outer net sleeve to hold your bottled water or umbrella so you dont have to cram it into the main compartment with your books and papers. There is an easy access, internal pocket, that gives you quick access to your purse, wallet or travel cards, which is far enough tucked away that pickpocketers cant get to it.with ease anyway.
My only complaint is with the inner compartment. The main inner compartment is divided in half. One half for laptop and the other half for folders, books etc. The problem is that because of this it creates two flat compartments which makes it impossible to pack anything bulky or boxy such as your lunch, gym clothes, or even really big books or lots and lots of books. Basically, it holds lots of little things or flatish things, but not big bulky things.
Overall, I think it is a very well designed product, its durable, water-proof and feather light. I would def recommend it. |

I've had this for over two years, and have been extremely happy with it. It provides a pretty good compromise between being too big and too small. Fits a laptop up to 15" screen (maybe 16" non-widescreen) in a special extra padded compartment w/ velcro strap to hold it down. The other compartments are kind of "loose", meaning that stuff just flops to the bottom of the pack! I think it could do with a few more pockets though. There are separators, but if your item is not very big, it slides right down. But for just computer accessories (cables, cards, extra batteries, cds, dvd, etc), this pack works great. Comes w/ a cellphone case which clips on the strap, though I never used this.
There is some very nice ridged padding on the outer back, so it fits comfortably on your back. Straps have eough adjustability, though I would have liked a little more padding.

The Targus Deluxe Sport Backpack places heavy loads on your hips and chest, where the weight is most easily managed. Although I like the setup of a messenger bag, which can hold many files upright, I was concerned about carrying a heavy laptop (7 lbs.) and books on only one shoulder. Consequently, I opted for a backpack solution.
The backpack, when loaded with a heavy laptop and a few folders and books, feels light thanks to the backpack's design of placing most of the weight on the bearer's hips and chest. It has plenty of pockets on the outside--and fewer inside the bag--to carry writing utensils, papers, cords, and water bottles. However, I miss not having an organizational panel for pencils, lead, checkbooks, and thumb drives. Also, when a two-inch thick laptop is inserted, there is only room for a binder or two and two or three books. Perhaps there are ways to expand the backpack, but I have not yet found them.
It is a good backpack, but I think I could have found something else to fit my needs.
